Stop Ten – Rosary Stairway ENG
The ascent of the stairway leading up to the monastery, built in 1735, involves fifty steps. Individual landings of the “rosary stairway” used to be decorated with images depicting the life or the Virgin Mary in the following order: the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In order to prepare themselves before entering the temple, the pilgrims ascending the stairway would recite “Hail Mary” on each step and “Our Father” on each landing, thereby praying the Rosary before entering the house of God.
When ascending the rosary stairway, try to say your prayer to the glory of the Mother of God. She can hear you…
