Stop Eight – At The Trough ENG
At the house no. 159 in Niederlova street, it is possible to hear the gurgling of water: there is a spring called “U žlábku” [At the Trough]. It is said that the Paulaner monks from the nearby monastery used to have fish farming tanks here, as the only kind of meat this religious order ate was fish.
When the Paulaner order started to settle new “pagan lands” and spread education, St. Francis of Paola recommended for their commanderies to be built in places where three streams were springing from the ground. Perhaps this one was one of the three springing from beneath the church nave.
Listen to the gurgling water and it may tell you many peculiar stories…
The Paulaner religious garments consisted of a black, originally undyed, wool habit with a knee-length scapular joined with a hood and girded with a black string called cingulum with five knots.
